VIOLENT IMAGES TRIGGERED AT GERROA
Last Saturday I walked the beach and encountered this assembly of crested terns and gulls. Immediately, violent images of gulls, crows and migratory birds attacking the innocent inhabitants of a Californian town flashed into memory. My previous night’s entertainment was Alfred Hitchcock’s classic, ‘The Birds’.
I managed to avoid any confrontation despite their menacing looks.
The crested terns are back, having a holiday and happily hanging with their old mates, the gulls.
On our honeymoon at Norfolk Island, 43 years ago, I learnt the reason why they often fly in pairs. It’s because ‘one good tern deserves another!’
