Jewish Settlers Burn Christian Village

Illegal Israeli settlers set fire to land belonging to the village of Taybeh, the last of the West Bank’s ancient Christian-majority communities, on 9 June.

The attack escalated into assaults on individuals when the settlers impeded locals’ efforts to extinguish the fire. Taybeh residents have reported increasing violence and intimidation in recent months months, and the parish priest of the Latin rite Church of Christ the Redeemer, Fr Bashar Fawadleh, said this latest attack was “complex, alarming, and difficult to comprehend or justify.

‘Our message is simple and clear: we want to live in peace,’ said the parish priest of Taybeh. ‘We want our children to grow up in safety and our families to enjoy a normal life, just like people everywhere else in the world.
