ROYAL MEMORIES
This valued memorabilia takes me back to childhood. The movie theatre was the only way to witness Queen Elizabeth's coronation, as television did not arrive in Australia until 1956. I sat mesmerised by the height of glittering pomp and ceremony as an eight-year-old with my parents.
The memory of her visit to Sydney is more indelibly burnt into my brain. On a blistering day in February 1954, I stood in the sun in Centennial Park, for what seemed forever, as Her Majesty drove the corridors of thousands of cheering schoolchildren.
The memory of whoever gave me this commemorative New Testament has gone, but the firmness of Queen Elizabeth’s Christian faith that gave shape and strength to her strong leadership will not be forgotten.
